Marian Street Theatre for Young People's wonderful production of The Magic Pudding played to full houses during the July 2010 school holidays. The Sydney Puppet Theatre created Albert, the Magic Pudding the only puppet in this production . In his own words Albert was "the star of the show!" . Recently reviewed in Stage Whispers, David Spicer wrote
"The biggest challenge posed by bringing The Magic Pudding to the stage is what to do with the star of the show? Having a person play an inexhaustible bowl of pudding would be hard to swallow. In this regard the Marian Street Theatre for Young People production was a triumph. Albert -

THE PUPPET CARAVAN, Feb/March 08
Early in 2008 we journeyed across the Nullabor on the Puppet Caravan with 7 other puppeteers (9 of us in all). The Puppet Caravan created performances in some unusual places including Eucla in Western Australian (just over the border from South Australia). Some people travelled over 300 kilometres to see a puppet show! In Perth we performed "Z for Giraffe" at the UNIMA 2008 International Puppetry Congress and Festival. The show got wonderful reviews and we really enjoyed playing to so many international delegates and Perth families. The show was subsequently invited to perform at the 30th Anniversary of the Mistelbach Puppet Festival in Austria in October 08. We were very pleased to be the Australian representative at the extraordinary festival which showcased 30 shows from 30 countries.
In March 2018 we hosted performers from Argentina. Daiana and Mario from Teatro Infinito came to Australia especially to do a private workshop in shadow puppetry with shadow puppet master Richard Bradshaw.
Yet again, puppetry proved to be a wonderful medium to unite people from the other side of the globe.
We are always amazed at how creative kids are and love creating puppet making workshops for children. Here are some photos from a recent Puppet Pals workshop.
March 21, 2018 was World Puppetry Day and the theme for this year is “Together We Create the Movement”. Puppeteers worldwide contributed to video to celebrate the day.
Imagin Arta – the Australian Puppet Centre has launched its inaugural Scholarship for an individual or a group of up to 3 people aged 14 to 18 years to be mentored by the Sydney Puppet Theatre. The aim of the scholarship is to encourage young people to discover the wonder and power of puppetry through creating a short puppetry performance. Applicants must reside in the Southern Highlands NSW and applications close on April 20, 2018. Contact Sue at spuppet@ozemail.com.au for details.
OUR FIRST AUTOMATON
In November 2018, we exhibited our first automaton “Once Were Parasols” at the inaugural Artists Of The Round Yard exhibition at Retford Park, a National Trust Property.
The theme of the exhibition was the Art Of Giving, following James Packer’s gift of this magnificent property to the National Trust.
Automata is the meeting of physics and puppetry, where the viewer provides the gift of energy that moves the sculpture.
“Once Were Parasols” now happily lives at ImaginArta -
